Electrical Engineer for Power Electronics and Certification (80 - 100%)

We are looking for a power electronics and certification engineer (80 - 100%) m/f/d, who can support our Product Compliance Team for at least 6 months. There is an option to extend it. The start would be 01.04.2026 or by appointment.

What do we do in «Drives»? In «Drives», ABB produces drives for high power applications - in some cases even for shipbuilding and other areas. Our drives are frequency converters and power converters in a power range from 0.18 kW to 100 MW, so they are medium-voltage products.

Main tasks:

• Lead as a technical expert engineer on the product certification projects for MV Frequency Converters
• Clarify and manage product requirements (standards or directives related) provided by the Customer and/or Product Manager
• Collaborate with external Notified Bodies (TÜV SÜD, UL, CSA, …)
• Provide inputs related to the standards (IEC, UL, CSA,, …)
• Obtain and validate the final documentation from the external notified body
• Coordinate the activities with the external notified body (TÜV SÜD, UL, …)
• Writing and/or approving test specs according to standards
• Witness tests according to the specification, review & approve the test report
• Prepare & support the documentation for the external notified body
• Support the notified body with the final documentation
• Define system integration tests according to product standards
• Collect critical components for electrical safety (for UL, APQP, …)
• Coordinate implementation of product changes in collaboration with Release Manager, project engineering, manufacturing, testing, sourcing, R&D. etc.)
• Coordinate activities on different tools in the MV Drives organization, enabling a high degree of product automation.
• Coordinate the project certification activities of different compliance projects

Requirements:
• Bachelor´s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related
• 5+ years of experience in the field of power electrical engineering
• 2+ years of experience in the field of compliance engineering
• High sense of responsibility and commitment
• Self-driven personality
• Project management
• Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, …)
• Standards (mandatory) IEC 61800-5-1, UL347A, UL61800-5-1, CSA, ABS Marine, DNV GL, APQP, LVD (2014/35/EU), MD (2006/42/EC), EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and 2015/862/EU
• Knowledge of ABB’s Products (ABB Internal training)
• Fluent in English, fluent in German is highly recommended, but not mandatory

- For a workload of 80%, it can be flexible after discussion with the hiring manager

- In the beginning, the person will be onsite, after the probation period, it will be mixed (1-2 days Home Office / 3-4 days Onsite)
