We are looking for a Storage/Systems Engineer to work as a permanent employee for a leading financial services company in Zurich.
** Salary 125K++ **
The Storage Engineer will primarily be responsible for managing and supporting the firm’s data centers and the production storage. Responsibilities include supporting and maintaining the data center environments, clusters, servers, backups, disaster recovery and SANs. Additional responsibilities include assisting in integrating, implementing, and supporting all disk storage technologies, including SAN and Direct Attached Storage; supporting all aspects of the Enterprise Backup solution used on all Corporate Servers to backup and restore data. This includes selection of tape drives along with tape media, and tape silos / libraries.
Responsible for making capacity allocation recommendations for departments or projects.
Communicating with team members to determine appropriate capacity requirements.
Develop, implement, and support back-up and recovery strategies.
Monitor, and evaluate capacity usage for performance and capacity analysis and trending.
Assist in server and application rollouts.
Expected to participate in weekend activities: change weekends (up to 10 per year), BCM testing: 2-3 per year.
Expected to be available for on-call activities.
Other than being a storage SME, the below areas of hands-on knowledge are required. Having a minimum of 2 from below is necessary. The priorities of this knowledge is listed from 1 – 5, with 1 being the most vital experience.
Cloud based backup services using AWS.
Microsoft SCCM – software deployment.
Microsoft Windows OS administration – Desktop and Server.
VMWare basic administration – ESX servers and vCenter.
Citrix basic knowledge – XenDesktop & XenApp 7.x.
SKILL SETS REQUIRED:
Brocade switch zoning and configuration
Knowledge of multiple backup and recovery technologies & Advanced Disk Functions (Cloning, Snapshots, Virtualization)
Advanced disk subsystem configuration (Raid level implementations & LUN Configurations)
Backup software server installation
Working knowledge of HP 3Par
Working knowledge of VMware vSphere, Windows, Windows Clusters and Linux (Oracle Linux, SuSE Linux, Ubuntu)
Working knowledge of CommVault.
Working knowledge of multi-pathing software
Advanced performance analysis of disk subsystems
Understanding components of SAN attached storage to include device drivers, microcode levels, fiber adapters
Work with different hardware and software vendors to determine solutions
Leadership & Communication
Lead or work on a variety of virtual teams with members of multiple groups to proactively address support issues
Work effectively in a team environment
Communicate in a professional manner in person and in email when interacting with team members and customers
Provide guidance to less-experienced staff members while continuing to utilize other staff for technical assistance
Work independently on complex tasks with minimal technical and management guidance
Work as the project leader for some complex projects and provide task direction to achieve project goals
Deliver regular status updates to project team and management
Follow up on outstanding issues with project team and management
Evaluate and recommend improvements to group processes and technology solutions, i.e., monitoring standards, change/problem management

Able to estimate personal efforts required to complete task-related activities
Manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities
Assist in producing and maintaining detailed technical documentation for all assigned tasks and projects, e.g., Visio architectural diagrams, system configurations, and support procedures
Serve as a problem escalation point
Help form project schedules and timelines, working to ensure deadlines are met
Utilize company change management system by initiating and tracking all eligible changes to the environment
Utilize company problem management system by entering all eligible problems and documenting the resolution in the system
Proactively apply software updates supporting SAN storage infrastructure encompassing:
SAN – Brocade Switches
HBAs – HPE based environments
Drivers – Vendor specific (HPE, 3PAR)
Multipathing – Native and Vendor specific (HPE, 3PAR)
