The Senior Operator’s (Middle Distillates) primary purpose is to execute efficient handling of transactions, with timely and accurate administration and data entry, directly contributing to maximize the traders’ P&L - within the framework of contractual terms agreed by the traders.

Job purpose:

In accordance with operators skills, knowledge and increasing competencies (leading to increase of complexity in executed operations: logistics frame and/or geographical areas and/or volume to be handled), the Senior Operator, under supervision of the Desk leader when necessary, will be responsible for:

  • Contract Management: Ensure operations do not start until a written contract has been sent out or received from the counterparty. Read and understand the contractual content, terms and condition. Issue instructions to the relevant counterparties to execute the final contract, plus any amendments.
  • Financial Security: Instruct LC for issuance/receipt of LCs as per contract. Check commercial aspects of drafted LC to ensure details match contractual terms and actual events. Timely instruction for issue of outgoing invoice/process of incoming invoices.
  • Cargo Management: nominate vessels under the contract agreed by the trader. Issue Documentary Instructions. Appoint inspectors for Quality and Quantity when applicable. Process purchase, sale and services invoices. Storage management.
  • Vessels Management: clear the vessel with terminal and counterparties and vetting process through Charterers. Read and understand the fixture provided by Shipping Department. Issue instructions to the vessel via brokers - voyage orders/agents appointed/LOIs. Process all shipping invoices.
  • Rail Management: Rail transport scheduling and coordination with rail logistic providers. Execution of rail transport including post deal management e.g. demurrage and quality concerns.
  • Insurance & Claims: in the event of any issues during execution of the contract, advice Insurance Department and collect/co-ordinate documents and correspondence as required.
  • Coordination and data input: ensure correct and timely input of all details concerning the deal into trading system, DCTM and other systems.

If you have:

  • University Degree or Business School;
  • 5 years minimum of experience in operations in trading industry, with a minimum of 3 years in oil trading as cargo and vessel operator on gasoline products;
  • Knowledge of the international trading environment, preferably the oil industry.
  • Knowledge with operational and financial procedures;
  • Strong organization skills and ability to manage priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: communication, adaptation, negotiation and building productive relationships;
  • Autonomous, proactive and always thinking ahead;
  • Good judgment skills and ability to come up with solutions, while minimizing risk and optimizing the company’s interests;
  • Fluent in English; French or Italian or Russian or is an advantage.
