Swisscontact is an independent foundation for international development cooperation. Founded in 1959 by leading Swiss companies, it promotes skills development and entrepreneurship for sustainable economic growth in developing and emerging countries. Our financial partners are companies, foundations, and the public sector. We do not engage in public fundraising (donations from individuals).

The organization currently has around 1,200 employees working on over 120 projects in 41 countries. Its headquarters are in Zurich, Switzerland.

You will shape Swisscontact's strategic positioning vis-à-vis the private sector and institutional partners and help to further strengthen our impact and visibility in a challenging international environment as

Head Marketing & Communication (80-100%)

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Developing and implementing a new brand strategy, one which will particularly appeal to private sector partners. Translating it into a coherent corporate identity and an integrated marketing and communications strategy
  • Positioning Swisscontact as a business-oriented organization in development cooperation.
  • Management and further development of all marketing activities and campaigns, including digital channels, social media, PR, and corporate communications
  • Developing innovative digital strategies, using modern multimedia forms of communication and AI tools to increase reach and impact
  • Developing and implementing communication and fundraising campaigns (excluding traditional appeals for donations to the public), including storytelling
  • Support in establishing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, media, partners, and multipliers in the private and public sectors
  • Monitoring and reporting on marketing goals and key figures, continuous management, implementation, adaptation and control
  • Reorganization and management of an interdisciplinary team in Zurich, in close coordination with regional communications managers
  • Responsibility for annual planning and reporting for the marketing and communications team, including budget responsibility and human resource management

Requirements

  • Higher professional education in marketing or communications (university degree, technical college or equivalent training and further education)
  • Several years of professional experience (at least 8 years) in marketing and communications, as well as proven success in developing and implementing communications strategies in complex matrix structures of larger organizations, preferably in the internationally active private sector or international cooperation
  • Entrepreneurial, proactive, and constructive personality with a high level of motivation to work in the development sector
  • In-depth understanding of digital and content strategies as well as data-based performance measurement
  • Proven leadership skills, assertiveness, and experience in change management
  • Work experience in an international environment, ideally in a decentralized operation
  • Strong communication skills, conceptual and strategic competencies, willingness to innovate, and openness to new technologies and trends
  • Flexibility and willingness to selected travel to our project countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe
  • Excellent English and German skills. Good French and/or Spanish skills are an advantage
