The U.S. Embassy in Bern is seeking candidates for the position of Supervisory Human Resources Assistant. This key role serves as a principal advisor to the Management Officer/Human Resources Officer and provides comprehensive HR support to both U.S. and local staff at the Embassy and its Consular Agencies in Zurich and Geneva.
Supervisory Human Resources Assistant
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the full range of human resources functions, including merit-based compensation, payroll administration, recruitment and selection, position classification, training, and policy development.
- Administer the Locally Employed (LE) Staff program, ensuring compliance with Swiss labor laws and U.S. government regulations.
- Maintain and update personnel records and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all HR documentation and processes.
- Provide orientation and onboarding for new staff, and deliver guidance on employment terms and benefits.
- Supervise one local HR Assistant, providing training, mentoring, and daily work guidance.
- Lead performance management processes, including annual evaluations and merit-based reward calculations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for administrative matters with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, including the accreditation of U.S. diplomatic personnel.
- Advise Embassy leadership and staff on HR policies, procedures, and best practices, and contribute to the development of innovative HR services that enhance staff morale and operational efficiency.
- Support the recruitment and selection process for all local positions, from vacancy announcement to final selection and onboarding.
This position is located in the Management Section, the Embassy’s largest section, and reports directly to the Management/Human Resources Officer. The role requires strong organizational, advisory, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and deliver high-quality HR services in a fast-paced environment.
